ROV Operations in Strait of Magellan using Argonaut-MD
In the Strait of Magellan, south of Punta Arenas, Chile, ocean currents can be as high
as 4 to 6 knots. However, before safe ROV operations can be conducted in the
area, those currents must drop to less than 1 knot.

ROV before deployment

Prior to conducting these ROV operations, the Argonaut-MD is deployed on a mooring. The
data from the MD are monitored at the surface until the currents have reached a safe level
for ROV operations. The small size, accuracy, and portability of the Argonaut-MD makes it
an excellent choice for this kind of work.
