Mooring Dolphin Deployment of Argonaut-SL

The SonTek/YSI Argonaut-SL (side-looking) measures 2-D current from a sampling volume that can be located up to 15 m from the instrument. The size and extent of the sampling volume is programmable, allowing currents to be measured in portions of channels that are of the most interest to mariners.

The SL's ability to be mounted on the side of an existing structure greatly reduces installation time and costs. Loss or damage to the instrument due to anchoring, dredge spoils, or fishing nets is eliminated.

Figure 1 shows one approach to mounting an SL on a mooring dolphin (or a wharf or pier). The mechanism allows the SL to be lowered and retracted easily without the use of divers.
