Examples

  • ADV - Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter
  • Charleston Clam Pens - The Marine Resources Research Institute used an ADV to measure the effect of clam pens on food distribution.
  • Surf Zone - Shows how an ADV was used to collect data in the surf zone of a local San Diego beach.
  • Dredge Head - Shows how an ADV can be used to map the field flow around a dredge head.
  • Everglades - Shows how an ADV was used to measure low-flow fields by the USGS in the Everglades.
  • Martha's Vineyard - Describes a laboratory evaluation and a field deployment of an ADV in the benthic boundary layer south of Martha's Vineyard during Hurricane Edouard by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
  • Rio Grande - Describes a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation project using an ADV to obtain detailed velocity profiles in the Rio Grande low-flow channel near Socorro, New Mexico.
  • Stennis - Shows how an ADV was used for low-flow studies around vegetation in a laboratory setting at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.
  • Wave Field Measurements - Shows how several ADVs were used to study currents generated by a wave field at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
  • Wave Flume Measurements - Shows how an ADV was used to measure the orbital velocities of a wave field within a flume.
  • Arkansas Stream Gauging Program - Describes the advantages of using a FlowTracker for stream-gauging measurements.
  • Hot Spring Measurements - Describes how a FlowTracker was used to take measurements in a Yellowstone National Park hot spring.
  • Indiana Stream Discharge - Describes how USGS personnel used a FlowTracker to measure discharge in eight Indiana streams.
  • South Platte River - Describes a model verification project using a FlowTracker at Colorado State University.
  • Tow Tank Test - Describes how the FlowTracker Handheld ADV was tested at a USGS tow tank.
  • USGS Discharge Measurement Policy - The following link is to a Technical Memorandum issued by the U.S. Geological Survey's Office of Surface Water. This memorandum [pdf format] describes the USGS policy on the use of the FlowTracker for discharge measurements. The information presented in this memorandum is a courtesy from the USGS, and should not be construed as an endorsement. Additionally, this memorandum is provided "as-is"; that is, the USGS does not provide support for this memorandum outside its own agency.
