Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) Performance Curves (APC) sampling the flow turbulenceThe capability of Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters (ADV) to resolve flow turbulence was analyzed in Ven Te Chow Hydrosystems Laboratory, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), by means of a new tool referred to as ADV Performance Curves (APC). Using the APCs, a new criterion is proposed to define optimal flow and sampling conditions for turbulence measurements using an ADV. The proposed methodology can be used for the design of experimental measurements as well as for the interpretation of both field and laboratory observations using ADVs. The following paper is courtesy of the Ven Te Chow Hydrosystems Laboratory at UIUC and its authors. This paper was approved for oral presentation in the EWRI '04 World Water & Environmental Resources Congress, ASCE, Utah (2004).
