Embedded Systems Development

SonTek is the industry leader for fully featured systems with a total commitment to the development of innovative new products. SonTek is currently looking for embedded systems engineers at Entry, Intermediate and Senior levels. Details for each experience level are provided below.

Responsibilities

 

As a part of the embedded systems development team, you will:

• Develop data acquisition systems for Oceanographic and Hydrographic measurement instruments, data acquisition systems, and handheld units.
• Interface with software and hardware engineers, sales personnel, and customers to specify product requirements and provide detailed technical assistance.
• Perform product support responsibilities such as maintenance, upgrades, and release and creation of technical and support documentation.
• Communicate with customers to provide support and identify new product opportunities.

Qualifications

 

The following requirements and skills are applicable to embedded systems engineering applicants of all levels:

 

Required Skills (All levels):

• Strong understanding of oceanographic, hydrology or fluid dynamics sciences, data collection and analysis practices.
• Strong Math/Physics background.
• Knowledge of C++, Object-Oriented software design, and programming in an RTOS environment.
• Experience with embedded systems development tools such as emulators, compilers, scopes, and logic analyzers.
• Good teamwork, multi-tasking and analytical skills.
• Solid communications skills, both verbal and written.

Preferred Skills (All levels):

• Previous industry experience is a plus – including sensor design, testing, manufacture, data collection, and data analysis.
• Experience with underwater acoustics signal processing.
• Experience with Visual Studio and scripting.
• Experience with customer support and service.
• Familiarity with serial communications and wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, satellite, RF, etc.
• Good knowledge of electronic components such as Micro Controllers, DSP, Memory, Flash.

Educational Requirements (All levels):

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD  degree in Science or Engineering.

Competencies

 

Embedded Systems Engineer – Entry Level

As an entry level embedded systems engineer,  your tasks will include embedded software development, system testing and product releases.

Required Skills:

As listed above.

Embedded Systems Engineer – Intermediate

As an intermediate level embedded systems engineer,  your tasks will include embedded software design, development and testing.

Required Skills:
As listed above, plus 3-5 years embedded software development experience.

Experience in the development of embedded real-time applications.

Embedded Systems Engineer – Senior

As an senior  level embedded systems engineer,  your tasks will include embedded software design and development, mentoring of other engineers and close interaction with our sales and marketing teams to identify potential opportunities.

Required Skills:
As listed above, plus 5+ years embedded software development experience.

Experience in the development of embedded real-time applications.

Electronics Engineer

SonTek, A division of YSI, a thriving manufacturer of high quality acoustic Doppler instruments used for water velocity and flow measurement, is presently seeking an energetic individual to join our San Diego-based team as an electronics engineer to support the growth of SonTek's product line. Ideal candidates will have the following:

 

Responsibilities

• Experience with development tools such as emulators, compilers, logic analyzers, scopes, and spectrum analyzers.
• Design electronic circuits, components, and integrated systems using ferroelectric, nonlinear, dielectric, phosphorescent, photo-conductive, and thermoelectric properties of materials.
• Design test control apparatus and equipment, determine procedures for testing products, and direct engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment.
• Evaluate operational systems and recommend design modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in system requirements.
• Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.

Qualifications

• MSEE
• 5+ years of experience in the design of digital circuits
• Must have 3+ years of experience in analog circuits
• Experience with PCB layout tools
• Experience with digital signal processing, FPGA’s, acoustic instrumentation, and manufacturing engineering are highly desirable

Competencies

• Generates creative solutions; uses feedback to modify designs; applies design principles; demonstrates attention to detail.
• Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.
• Excellent math and systems background.
