Laboratory - Turbulence
[I-A]
I want to make measurements in a laboratory. [change]
My research involves turbulence. [change]
If your primary research interest is turbulence, you will find that our MicroADV (Acoustic Doppler
Velocimeter) boasts the highest spatial and temporal resolution of any instrument SonTek/YSI
makes. The MicroADV is capable of 50-Hz data rates with 1% accuracy in a volume that is
less than 1/10 of a cubic centimeter. Assuming you can place the probe within 20 m of
your desktop PC, then a MicroADV system is the best fit for your needs.
The MicroADV probe can be factory-configured for
up, down, or side-looking applications. The down-looking probe is most commonly used.
Side-looking probes are most often used when measurements close to a vertical boundary are
of interest. Up-looking probes are used for measuring surface boundary layers. For maximum
versatility, the sensor head can be mounted on a flexible cable, which requires you to
record the XYZ orientation of the head.

A research group from the hydraulic laboratory at Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric
Engineering (Wuhan, China) used several MicroADV lab systems to measure turbulence
and mean flow over the water column of a flume. The photo shows the MicroADV probe and its
setup platform. The research group was particularly interested in the measurements close
to the bottom, and was very pleased with the MicroADV's performance. |
