Near Shore - Large Scale Currents
[II-B3]
I want to make measurements in the ocean. [change]
My area of interest is the near shore... [change]
...and involves large scale currents. [change]
Our large-scale current meter for
oceanographic applications is the Argonaut-MD
(Moored Deployment). This instrument measures the full, three-dimensional velocity in a
cell that is just over one-meter thick. This cell is extended above (or below) the package
to avoid wake contamination. The Argonaut-MD is designed for autonomous
deployments of a year or more, and comes standard with on-board memory, batteries,
compass/tilt sensors, and a temperature sensor. Though a load cage may be used, the
instrument has been designed and extensively tested for operations where it is clamped
directly to a mooring line.
The standard Argonaut-MD is depth-rated to 600 m; a 6000-m rated
titanium version is also available.
The Argonaut-MD can be deployed with an integrated CT sensor. It can
also be deployed with an inductive modem to allow for real-time data transmission from a
surface buoy.
The Argonaut-XR (Extended Range) is designed for
bottom-mounting for measuring depth-integrated velocities out to a range of 40 m. An
on-board pressure sensor can be set to automatically adjust the measurement
parameters with changing water levels.
