The Argonaut-SL (Side-Looking) current meter, the Argonaut-SW (Shallow Water), and the Argonaut-XR (Extended Range) current meter are the primary SonTek/YSI solutions for velocity measurements in a velocity-stage indexing program.
The Argonaut-SL can be mounted on one side of the river and can project its sampling volume up to 120 m across the river. A vertical beam provides water level information. Note: For longer ranges, you may want to consider our side-looking Acoustic Doppler Profiler (SL-ADP).
The Argonaut-SW is bottom mounted and provides a depth-integrated velocity measurement out to a range of 5 m. A vertical acoustic beam provides water level information. The measurement cells will dynamically adjust in size as the water level changes. Typically used in irrigation canals.
The Argonaut-ADV is designed for gauging in rivers that are extremely shallow (a few centimeters), by providing a point measurement at a carefully chosen location.
The Argonaut-XR
(right) is designed for bottom-mounting
for measuring depth-integrated velocities out to a range of 40 m. An on-board
pressure sensor can be set to automatically adjust the measurement parameters with
changing water levels.
The Argonaut systems can be configured using the U.S. Geological Survey's SDI-12 protocol.
