Application Engineer/Technical Sales (Coastal/Oceanographic)
SonTek/YSI, a thriving manufacturer of high quality acoustic Doppler
instruments used for water velocity and flow measurement, is presently seeking
an energetic individual to join our San Diego-based team as an applications
engineer in coastal/oceanographic technical sales. Ideal candidates will
have the following minimum requirements.
Responsibilities
- Promote SonTek instruments into the coastal/oceanographic customer base,
including technical education, preparing competitive strategies, and writing
relevant documentation to support this effort.
- Support all sales channels including direct sales to customers and via
independent selling partners.
- Write technical papers and application notes, and travel to conferences
and exhibitions in support of the SonTek product line.
- Demonstrate sufficient expertise in the application of SonTek products
to help grow company market share within targeted marketing areas around the
world.
- Help develop sales/marketing tools, strategies, and tactics to support
the SonTek product line.
- Assist in business planning process, setting sales goals, and working
with various sales channels to achieve them.
Qualifications
- Minimum of B.S. degree in applied science or engineering with a minimum
of 2 years of relevant industry experience in a coastal or oceanographic
application.
- Basic understanding of vector mathematics.
- Able to discuss ongoing projects with leading scientists and researchers
around the world.
- Knowledge or direct experience in projects involving water current
measurement, sediment transport, turbulence, wave direction, or coastal
dynamics is a plus.
- Previous experience in business development, consulting, or technical
sales in the marine industry is preferred.
- Able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
Tasks
- Assist sales staff in responding to general inquiries.
- Write and follow-up on quotations.

Applied Coastal/Oceanographic Scientist
SonTek/YSI, a thriving manufacturer of high quality acoustic Doppler

an energetic individual to join our San Diego-based team as the principal
development scientist and oceanographer in support and growth of SonTek's
coastal oceanography product line. Ideal candidates will
have the following minimum requirements.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a vigorous technical program applied to growing SonTek's
coastal oceanography product line.
- Proactively engage the scientific community and SonTek's engineers with
applied research using the company's core technologies.
- Identify emerging technologies and applications pertinent to the product
line and coordinate implementation/incorporation in a project-oriented
framework involving company's R&D and Sales & Marketing teams.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a MS (PhD preferred) in one of the following areas (or
equivalent): Physical Oceanography, Fluid Dynamics, Applied Acoustics,
Physics, Ocean Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in project-based work.
- Knowledge and experience in the fundamental theories, concepts, and
current state-of-the-art research and/or technology development in the area
of coastal oceanography or environmental fluid dynamics, including, but not
limited to, measuring turbulence, mixing, coastal zone currents, directional
surface waves, bottom boundary layer dynamics and sediment transport.
- Strong understanding of underwater acoustics is a plus.
- Able to work in the field (e.g., beach, estuary, bay, coastal zone,
etc.).
- Occasionally able to go to sea on a small boat and/or research vessel.
- Able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Competencies
- Programming experience in MATLAB, IDL, or similar environment.
- Perform data analysis in the frequency-domain (spectral data).
- Good interpersonal and presentation skills required.
- Knowledge of programming in C/C++ and/or embedded firmware design is a
plus.
Tasks
- Annually publish (author or co-author) at least two articles in a
recognized scientific journal or trade magazine.

Electronics Engineer

Responsibilities
- Design electronic circuits, components, and integrated systems using
ferroelectric, nonlinear, dielectric, phosphorescent, photo-conductive, and
thermoelectric properties of materials.
- Design test control apparatus and equipment, determine procedures for
testing products, and direct engineering personnel in fabrication of test
control apparatus and equipment.
- Develop new applications of conductive properties of metallic and
nonmetallic materials used in components, and in application of components
to products or systems.
- Direct field operations and maintenance of electronic installations.
- Evaluate operational systems and recommend design modifications to
eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in system requirements.
- Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to

Electronics Test Technician

an energetic individual to join our San Diego-based team as an electronics
test technician to support the growth of SonTek's product line. Ideal candidates will
have the following minimum requirements.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate returned products and provide root cause analysis
- Set up test equipment to troubleshoot product failures
- Perform final assembly and test customer returned instruments
- Use signal generator, frequency meter, test computer and/or spectrum
analyzer to test instruments
- Read test manuals, product specifications, wiring diagrams, and
schematics
- Test instruments, compare results with specifications, record test data
and plots results on graphs
- Interface with engineers, technicians, production personnel, technical
support engineers and others regarding test results and solution
implementation
- Provide periodic repair status, capture service data, and prepare
detailed reports to management
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) in electronics technology or equivalent
academia from a technical school, plus 2 years of related work experience
- In lieu of education, 3-5 years of progressive work experience in
testing computer systems, medical, or electronic instrumentation
- Proficiency to compute rate, ratio, and interpret basic algebra and
geometry concepts

Repair Production Manager

have the following minimum requirements.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for Repair Order acceptance, providing realistic ship dates
and meeting these dates, work flow planning, scheduling and shipping
products based on promised ship date.
- Develop and manage resources (people, equipment, materials) to optimize
production output with respect to delivery, quality, and cost.
- Coordinate activities of various departments to ensure that all areas
are working on the appropriate tasks to meet deadlines.
- Work with the Repairs Team to develop and implement materials management
strategy for repair materials inventory (make/buy, Kanban/MRP, repair orders
master scheduling, inventory levels, etc) and keep inventory at optimum
level.
- Establish budgets and operating targets.
- Collect data on repairs, field, and out-of-box failures, and participate
in Product Team meetings to help effectively improve the product performance
and processes.
- Analyze operational performance (on time delivery, profitability, cost,
inventory levels, etc) and develop strategies for improvements.
- Train staff and provide development.
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Support, and Operations to develop
strategies for global repair facilities.
- Work with Purchasing and Planner to obtain and schedule materials based
on production forecasts or customer orders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, or related field and 3-5
years of manufacturing experience
- Training in formal problem solving and operational analysis is desired
- Must be able to communicate with superiors, peers, and subordinates in a
professional manner
- Demonstrate initiative and willingness to seek out improvement through
the use of manufacturing tools

Service/Repairs Scheduler

an energetic individual to join our San Diego-based team as a service and
repairs scheduler to support the growth of SonTek's product line. Ideal candidates will
have the following minimum requirements.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and maintaining the day-to-day repairs
activities, including, but not limited to receiving and processing repair
orders (50%). Additional time will be spent on all aspects of the
Repair Center’s RMA operation requirements and other clerical functions
within the repair center as well as other areas of the company (50%).
- Interact with customers via telephone, fax, and email on a daily basis.
- Plan and maintain a repair schedule based on customer needs and resource
capacity.
- Receive repair orders in Oracle Depot Repair Database.
- Manage repairs inventory requirements and allocate parts to repair
orders.
- Gather data and information to prepare and submit repair quotations to
customers.
- Maintain the return of material from Authorized Service Centers (testing
of material for reject to vendor, scrap at factory, repair if possible).
Qualifications
- Previous experience in material management either in manufacturing or
repair center environment preferred.
- Must have previous scheduling or RMA operations experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Scheduling/Planning experience or background with electronics equipment
a plus.

commitment to the development of innovative new water-velocity measurement
products. Located in San Diego, we are currently looking for software engineers at Entry,
Intermediate, and Senior levels. Requirements for each experience level are
provided below.
As a part of the software development team, you will:
- Develop desktop (PC) software applications for real-time data
acquisition and processing.
- Interface with firmware and hardware engineers, sales personnel, and
