SonTek/YSI Cited in California-China
Environmental Technology Agreement

San Diego, CA, November 29, 2005 -- SonTek/YSI is one of three California-based companies noted in a November 17 announcement from the California Commission for Jobs and Economic Growth as one of the state's "environmental technology and services employers that are exporting their products and services to China."

The day before, California EPA Secretary Alan Lloyd and Deputy Director of the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau Pei Chenghu signed an agreement establishing "a framework for future cooperation between the two agencies in the fields of air pollution control, water resources management and environmental remediation."

The memorandum of understanding between the California EPA and Beijing EPB is to have government, education and business work together for a better future. Ongoing efforts include promoting exchanges at the government and university level and promoting environmentally-based California businesses in China.

During a six-day trade mission trip to China, CA Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger witnessed the signing of the agreement which, according to the Commission's press release, presents an "opportunity for California employers to expand their export trade to China and grow jobs" while helping China to grapple "with the severe environmental impacts that decades of booming industrial expansion have wrought." Gov. Schwarzenegger noted.

And California has the advanced environmental technology, expertise, and products and services to help China keep its air and water clean.

SonTek/YSI representatives Mark Tepper and Chris Ward organized the company's participation at the California-China environmental roundtable meeting, along with 29 other CA companies. At their invitation, Director Wang Yun Hui from the Zhejiang hydrology bureau also attended.

"It was an unequaled opportunity to rub shoulders with Directors from the highest levels within the Central and Provincial Governments," said Todd Mudge, oceanographer, who represented SonTek at the roundtable in Beijing.

SonTek/YSI's core product lines measure water flow and velocity using acoustic Doppler technology. The company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of YSI Incorporated, is based in San Diego, California.
