San Diego, California,
March 3, 2006 – Company founder Ramon
Cabrera has returned to SonTek/YSI to lead special product technology projects.Mr. Cabrera –- who has training in ocean engineering, computer
science, and physics -- co-founded SonTek in 1992 after leading research and
development at RD Instruments. His goal was to produce high-quality acoustic
Doppler current meters for flow measurement. Through his technical expertise and
creative problem-solving, he grew SonTek into a leader in the water velocity
measurement industry.
"Ramon was involved in the conception of almost every
acoustic Doppler instrument on the market today," observes Rick Omlor, President
& CEO of YSI Inc., SonTek/YSI's parent company. "He has the uncanny ability of
taking extremely complex systems and making them operational for the every day
user trying to collect good data."
In 2001 Cabrera sold the company to YSI and remained on board during
the transition period. After a hiatus, he has returned to SonTek/YSI as
a technical resource.
SonTek manufactures affordable, reliable acoustic Doppler
instrumentation for water velocity measurement in oceans, rivers, lakes,
harbors, estuaries, and laboratories. YSI, an employee-owned company,
manufactures a full line of both handheld and benchtop instruments for
measuring water quality. It also manufactures multiparameter, real-time
monitoring systems for environmental applications.
