SonTek/YSI Solution Helps Advance
Largest-Ever Oceanic Survey
San Diego, California,
March 9, 2006 – The State Oceanic Administration (SOA) in Beijing is calling
it the "908 Project", and it is reported to be one of the most extensive oceanic
surveys not only to be conducted off the coast of China, but possibly in the
history of oceanic investigation. SonTek/YSI is offering one of the key solutions to this important project, with
the accompanying support of sub-sea instrumentation manufacturer, Sonardyne Asia
Pte Ltd, Singapore. In addition to access to SonTek/YSI applications expertise,
the SOA has invested in 11 bottom-mounted SonTek
Acoustic Doppler Profiler (ADP®)
systems along with 11 Sonardyne Lightweight Release Transponders (LRTs), which
will be secured in trawl-resistant bottom mounts.
This system
will allow scientists to engage in real-time current monitoring, collect
detailed current surveys, and make the most accurate and robust current
measurements possible. Scientists will evaluate ADP data and use their findings
to help formulate the national oceanic development strategies and make decisions
concerning social and economic development of the country's coastal regions."It makes
sense for SonTek to play a major role in the execution of the 908 Project" said
Chris Ward, SonTek’s Global Business Development Manager. "China is an important
market for us—we have expertise on the ground in China and are committed to investing in
the region. More importantly, we are pleased to be able to offer SOA a solution
that will allow scientists to collect precise data, faster and more efficiently
than previously used methods."
China is the
world’s largest seafood and sea-salt producer and third largest marine
transporter. The 908
Project is scheduled to conclude in 2009.For more information, contact:
