This 2½-day course, "Velocity Index Methods Using Hydroacoustic Instruments" will be taught by University of Illinois Engineering professor, Dr. Arthur R. Schmidt, P.E., who will use his extensive experience in the use of acoustic sensors for flow measurements to lead practical, straight-forward lectures on hydraulic theory, methods, and statistical approaches for developing "Velocity Index" discharge ratings. He will also discuss how to verify discharge ratings, and finally, how to identify and analyze discharge rating errors (i.e., rating uncertainty).

Dr. Arthur Schmidt, P.E. is a leading researcher in the study of surface-water hydraulics and hydrology, with focus on methods to provide better measurement and quantitative description of flows and on reliability analysis applications in water resources and environmental engineering.
