Triton-ADV

Triton-ADV

Combining the power of SonTek's ADV technology with the proven PUV wave method, the Triton-ADV is the most value-packed system available for the measurement of currents, directional waves, and tides. In one package, you get the high-accuracy velocity data (with AutoVelocity) for which SonTek is known, coupled with integrated pressure, temperature, and compass/tilt sensors in a ready-to-deploy system. SonTek's ViewTritonPro software makes processing and analyzing your data a breeze!.

Triton-ADV App Notes [PDF]

The SonTek/YSI Triton-ADV is a single-point, Doppler current meter designed specifically for low-power measurements in shallow water. The Triton-ADV Doppler processing techniques provide several important advantages: 3D velocity measurements in a remote sampling volume; invariant factory calibration (no periodic re-calibration required); simple operation; and excellent low-flow, shallow-water performance.

Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters Offer Clues to Wave Behavior
Much of the current understanding of waves and nearshore circulation is based on studies conducted onlong, straight beaches. But add in complex bathymetric features like undersea canyons, and wave action becomes "like a house of mirrors at an amusement park—bent, twisted, contorted," said Steve Elgar of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
